The professional portfolio of Robert G. Thomas

Robert G. Thomas, BA, MA, MLIS

There are many aspects of my education and professional background which connect with my choice of career as a librarian. Some of these professional, instructional and educational experiences are given more detail below. If you want to see directly my librarian experience go directly here.

My academic background...

My academic background is clearly one that has put a strong stress on interdisciplinarity. I started my academic training with a honours bachelor of arts (BA Hons) degree in Sociology and History. My time in France 2004 - 2007

Between 2004 and 2007 I taught English in France within three distinct contexts: 1) A French teacher's college, 2) a set of three French elementary schools, and finally a third year at the Université de Marc Bloch in Strasbourg where I taught in the Foreign Languages Department (Départment des Langues Etrangères Appliquées).   Continue reading

Teaching with the EXPLORE programme in Ontario and PEI

Librarianship

At the end of my third year in France I returned to Canada in order to take an MLIS degree. I started a programme in library and information science at the University of Western Ontario, in London, Ontario, Canada in September 2007. During my time in the programme I developed a strong interest in academic libraries and completed a co-op term at Queen's University's Education Library, and it is in this area of librarianship where I now plan to make a career.
